Endodontic microsurgery

Endodontic microsurgery is indicated when a tooth has a lesion at the tip of a root and endodontic retreatment is not possible or not desirable. The surgery requires access through the gums. The procedure involves removing the tip of the infected root (dental apex) and cleaning the inside of the root in the opposite direction (retrograde approach) from that used in conventional root canal treatment (orthograde approach). It is performed under local anesthesia using an operating microscope.
